WP1 - Grid forming load concept development

Lead Beneficiary: UPC

Project objectives: WP1 is focused on developing the concept of grid-forming loads by defining the foundations of the concept, identifying relevant load types where the concept can be implemented and defining the key control schemes to consider the load limitations and the expected functionalities to be provided. The WP considers both the load nature and the grid services which have to be provided by grid forming units. The WP establishes the common ground where all the other work packages build their contributions.

WP2 - Concept application & validation - EVSE

Lead Beneficiary: Wallbox

Project objectives: WP2 will develop, simulate, validate and demonstrate the application of the grid-forming load concept to DC electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) in the laboratory environment interacting with emulated and real distributed energy resources.

WP3 - Concept application/validation-Pump systems

Lead Beneficiary: SGI

Project objectives: WP3 aims to apply the general control concepts for grid forming loads to the specific case of variable-speed pumps. WP3 targets also to set up PHiL test-rig and to validate the concept with a physical hydraulic system, an ac/dc/ac converter in grid-forming mode, for different events in the emulated ac system.

WP4 - System studies

Lead Beneficiary: eROOTS

Project objectives: WP4 is centred on performing grid studies to analyse the dynamics of power networks when they contain grid-forming loads. For this purpose, this work package will provide a framework to develop models of power electronics equipment, as well as covering their implementation and further analysis. The WP will consider generic large-scale power systems and will also study railway power systems as a particular case where the proposed concept is especially relevant.

WP6 - Dissemination, communication, exploitation, strategic Recommendations and Roadmap

Lead Beneficiary: AIT

Project objectives: WP6 encompasses the establishment of effective communication channels and tools, creating a cohesive project identity, maintaining an informative project website, engaging on social media, producing promotional materials, and participating in scientific events. Furthermore, it aims to identify potential exploitation routes for project outputs, assist partners in negotiating multilateral agreements for IPR management, and monitor project outcomes for exploitable results. Last focuses on developing tailored recommendations for stakeholders, identifying best practices and regulatory frameworks, and providing a roadmap for grid-forming load adoption.

WP5 - Economic and sustainability Assessment

Lead Beneficiary: EcoVibes

Project objectives: The objectives of this WP focus on regulatory framework analysis and evaluating economic, environmental and social performance, impacts and benefits of GFL concept.

WP7 - Project management and coordination

Lead Beneficiary: UPC

Project objectives: WP7 is focused on the overall project coordination and management.
